Takahanga Tamariki & Āhuru Mōwai

Takahanga Tamariki was a volunteer bilingual kaupapa led by Kahurangi from January 2019 to January 2020, demonstrating through games, waiata, karakia, and kai how whānau could incorporate more te reo at home. Held weekly at a local marae, it involved māmā, pāpā, grandparents, and their tamariki and mokopuna. Though it ended, it laid the foundation for Āhuru Mōwai, a 20-week kaupapa in 2021, also led by Kahurangi. This tuakana version of Takahanga Tamariki ran twice a week during school hours in an immersion setting, providing feedback on future support systems and activities for the Puna.

Te Kura Reo o Kaikōura

Te Kura Reo o Kaikōura began in 2021 with one class per week in the evening, and has since expanded to two classes per week held at night. We are now proud to offer a Level 3 certificate in Pokaitahi Reo Māori. Our classes provide more than just a space for learning Te Reo Māori, they are a place for engaging discussions, sharing local pūrakau and stories, singing waiata, and learning karakia.

The 2025 class will begin in May. Please click on the link below to visit our Facebook page to keep updated with information and next classes available if you are interested.
